How to Find the Best Filter System for Your Needs

Drink water straight from the tap? It rarely tastes fresh, and you learn nothing about its actual purity. Many people do not trust the fine-sounding promises of their regional water suppliers. Therefore, one should filter one's water before drinking – unless one wants to constantly buy bottled water for a lot of money.

But how does one filter correctly, what needs to be removed, what may remain, and how does it work? There are many methods for filtering, treating and activating water – we tell you how to find the right drinking water filter for yourself.

The quality of drinking water is of fundamental importance for the entire metabolism in our body, for our well-being and our health. Inadequate quality leads over time to restrictions in vitality, health, regeneration and ultimately quality of life.

What is good, healthy drinking water? What quality should our drinking water have?

The questions about which chemical-physical properties drinking water should have are answered for us by nature over thousands of years. We only need to analyze the quality of the water that animals drink and that humans used in earlier times, before “mineral waters” were sold or waterworks declared their treated water as drinking water. Optimal drinking water comes from unpolluted springs and rivers, rainwater or meltwater. It has a pH value of 6.4 to 7.0, a redox value (rH2) of 26 to 28 and a resistance of more than 6,000 ohms.

Drinking Water Filters: The Most Important Filtration Methods, Their Properties and Effects

Drinking water filters can be divided into three categories:

• Microfiltration down to 1 μm particle size

• Ultrafiltration down to 0.01 μm particle size

• Osmosis/reverse osmosis down to 0.0001 μm particle size

Typically, filter systems with micro- and ultrafiltration operate without electricity; they therefore require no pumps, tanks or electrical components. Almost all osmosis/reverse osmosis filters currently on the market are 99 % available only with pumps and other electrical components – which can be a major disadvantage in the event of a power failure.

Microfiltration

Depending on the filter media used (sediment filter, activated carbon block filter, activated carbon granular filter …), microfiltration already removes some sediments and pollutants – down to particle sizes of 1 μm (micrometer) or even 0.1 μm. Smaller particles, such as bacteria, are not removed in this way. Only with ultrafiltration at 0.01 μm are bacteria also reliably filtered out. In both systems, the minerals dissolved in the water (ionic solution) are not filtered or reduced. Lime is likewise not reduced.

Ultrafiltration

Ultrafiltration represents an entry into the world of high-quality water filters, whereby osmosis filtration according to our criteria (chemical, biological and biophysical) constitutes the optimal solution – of course with subsequent water activation.

Osmosis, Reverse Osmosis

Osmosis, also called reverse osmosis, reliably filters particles down to 0.0001 μm – including the minerals in the water, so that a conductivity of 10-20 microsiemens can be measured at the outlet of an osmosis membrane. The pre-filters used in osmosis filters (sediment filter/activated carbon block filter) serve to remove sediments, coarser dirt particles and substances such as chlorine, heavy metal compounds and thereby protect the osmosis membrane with regard to its filtration performance and longer service life.

With osmosis filters one can be certain that all pollutants are removed purely mechanically. The pore size of this filter is so fine that only the purest water molecules can pass through and all other substances contained in the water are removed or retained.

Common Prejudices Against Osmosis

• “Osmosis water is not healthy”

• “Osmosis water is dead water”

• “Osmosis water removes minerals from the body” etc.

The most important counter-argument: water filtered by osmosis is extremely pure and free of pollutants. Every interested person who engages with nature, biology and natural principles will subsequently activate and energize the chemically “pure osmosis water” in order to restore the natural “vitality” to the water. Just as nature swirls the water after it emerges from the spring and brings it into contact with various stones and energies, so too can osmosis-filtered water be charged with natural energies and reconnected.
